MacBook Air is the thinnest laptop in the world. Lo
thin is not a joke, because its thickness varies between 0.4 cm and 1.94 cm at the widest part.
How have Apple put a computer in that size? With engineering and a little help from Intel, which have been manufactured as processors.
processor that comes equipped with the MacBook Air is an Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 MB cache, you can choose between a version of 1.6 GHz and a 1.8 GHz comes with 2 GB of DDR2 667 MHz RAM
The screen has a size of 13.3 inch widescreen, so that its maximum resolution is 1280 x 800 pixels. Is managed by an Intel GMA X3100 graphics card that shares memory with 144 MB of main RAM. If we choose to use the available video outputs we can obtain maximum resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels.
Speaking of video outputs directly only has a Micro-DVI output, even with the laptop are a couple of adapters, one to convert to DVI and one to convert it into VGA. Optionally, converters are also available to composite video and S-Video.
In the storage section, the version with 1.6 GHz processor comes with an ATA hard disk 80 GB at 4200 rpm, a tad slow today but is forgiven by the small footprint. The other version, however, includes a 64 GB SSD. Apple was the precursor
way towards removing the floppy and it seems that it intends to do the same with optical drives, at least on laptops, since they do not include any. If you need to read a CD or DVD will have the option to do it remotely, using the drive on another computer, this can be equipped with Windows or Mac OS X. If
we look at input devices, the keyboard is very similar to the MacBook, but with backlit keys and incorporating a light sensor that adjusts both the brightness of this as the screen. The trackpad offers multi-touch capabilities, though it remains to be seen which will be borne applications. For now, we have seen in iPhoto.
connectivity is offered by the Wi-Fi and is compatible with 802.11n, Bluetooth 2.1 and USB 2.0 port.
The battery life is 5 hours and it is curious that the specification just put it over a wireless logo productivity.
The laptop weight is 1.36 kilos and its maximum dimensions of 1.94 × 32.5 × 22.7 cm. The price of version 1.6 GHz processor and 80 GB hard disk is of 1699 euros, while the other is of 2798 euros.
In conclusion, it is spectacular as they have managed to cram all that in so little space. Apart from this, it also implies a low weight, the MacBook Air does not imply any revolution. It is a good laptop, but not small, not the ultraportable that many had expected.
It also has several serious drawbacks. The first is the impossibility of changing any part, even the battery. Is encapsulated as an iPod, so if you want to carry an extra battery replacement and we can forget. Same with more RAM or change the hard disk.
The second is the high price of the SSD version, but this we can not blame Apple. A 64-GB SSD is expensive, but even more so if, as in this case, has a size of 1.8 inches instead of 2.5 times normal.
